Scent of Rage

“I have to lure them in.” - he whispered.

The man in black walked out of the house with the silver sword in his hand. The door’s hinges creaked and protested, begging him to stay inside. Then he saw them all in the darkness. Hulking wolves walking on two legs with shining yellow eyes. Sharp teeth bared, and the screeching of the door behind him blended with their growling. They stood in front of him, preparing to pounce. He knew that fear was trying to get its hold on him now, but God took it all away. His fear no longer belonged to him.

“Come, meet your fate.” - he said.

A beast jumped at him, and the slaughter began. He dodged its bite, mouth full of knives. But its claws sunk into the man’s skin, pouring hot blood down his clothes.

The man in black withstood the wolf’s weight and saw another one ready to pounce over his shoulder. He sliced the first attacker’s thigh with his sword, loosening his grip. The monster squealed from the silvered blade, but before he could swing to finish it, the second one was on him. This time he was ready, and the tip of his sword found the belly of the charging monster.

They were strong and many, but their anger would be their downfall. He couldn’t stand in front of them and fight them all at once. So he buried the sword in the first attacker’s neck, who was still biting at him and slipped just in time to avoid a set of claws. He ran into the house, facing the beasts and closed the door with a kick, hoping to slow them down.

A moment later, it exploded into pieces as a werewolf stormed in. The man in black cut its hand off as it swung his claws and sliced his belly open with the backswing. He pushed the body to block the entrance, and it slowed another werewolf enough so he could slide the sword under his armpit.

The door became the choke point he needed. It slowed them down so he could take them one by one. Two more found their deaths trying to break in, and somehow, the house walls held. He heard a crash behind him and saw a wolf climbing through a window on the other side of the house.

“There goes the plan.” - he whispered to himself.
